In this session we will be discussing the skills and techniques necessary in order to effectively teach reading as a skill.
As one of the 4 key language skills, reading is of vital importance to students of a foreign language. To be a strong reader requires more than the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. It requires being an active reader with an understanding of why you are reading as well as the ability to achieve your goal. This session will focus on the methods that will enable students to become more competent readers.
We will now take a closer look at the different types of reading. Afterwards, we will discuss how to structure a successful reading lesson, how to design reading-based tasks for your students, and finally, how to avoid potential pitfalls associated with the teaching of reading.
